“Backing Black Business. Building a Better Kansas City”

Advocate with Us

Support Black Business. Champion Equity. Transform Kansas City

At BOBKC, we are more than a network of entrepreneurs. We are a movement for change. For more than a decade, we have supported and amplified Black-owned businesses across Kansas City. Now, we are using our voice to influence the systems and policies that determine whether these businesses survive or thrive.

Advocacy is how we build a better future—and you can be a part of it.

Why Advocacy Matters

Black entrepreneurs in Kansas City are launching companies, creating jobs, and investing in their neighborhoods. But too often, they are excluded from the tools, resources, and opportunities that other business communities take for granted. This exclusion is not accidental. It is the result of decades of policy decisions, disinvestment, and structural inequities.

BOBKC advocates for a Kansas City where Black businesses are fully included in every part of the economic ecosystem.

We focus our advocacy efforts on:

  • Expanding access to inclusive business incubators, accelerators, and physical spaces for growth

  • Securing public and private investment in Black-led business infrastructure, including the future development of The Enterprise Center of Kansas City (TECKC)

  • Bridging the digital divide through affordable high-speed internet and digital skills training

  • Shaping local and state policy to support Black entrepreneurship and equitable procurement

  • Building pathways to capital, contracts, and ownership for underestimated business owners

The Black Business and Digital Equity Coalition

BOBKC leads the Black Business and Digital Equity Coalition—a growing group of business leaders, grassroots organizers, civic advocates, and community members working together to advance equity in both business development and digital access.

This coalition believes in a future where:

  • Black entrepreneurs have access to the infrastructure and resources they need to scale

  • High-speed internet is available and affordable in every neighborhood

  • Public funding supports Black-led innovation and community-owned spaces

  • Policy decisions are shaped by the voices of those most directly impacted

Current Priorities

We are actively working toward:

  • Increased city and state funding for Black-led incubators and business development hubs

  • Broadband expansion and digital training in communities that have been left behind

  • Inclusive procurement policies that open up public and private contracts for Black businesses

  • Representation of Black entrepreneurs in economic development boards and planning processes
